QUALIFICATIONS:

Shows, Dearman & Waits, Inc., was formed in January of 1963 to pursue a general practice of consultation in civil engineering. Our primary objective has always been to provide quality service to our clients and to provide it efficiently and economically. Client service is the hallmark of this firm equal only to our commitment to excellence.

This commitment is exemplified in our highly professional staff consisting of five registered professional engineers, two engineer interns and twelve full-time support personnel.

Shows, Dearman & Waits, Inc., has engaged in planning, design and resident observation of major drainage, street and road, water and sewer systems, airport improvements and other major construction projects for a wide range of public and private sector clients. Our public sector experience has made our firm extremely knowledgeable of federal regulations, requirements and programs. Our firm has direct, practical experience with the following:

EXPERIENCE:

Shows, Dearman & Waits, Inc., has designed drainage systems for over 50 subdivision and/or land development projects in the greater Hattiesburg area. We have designed drainage systems for numerous airports, which include the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport (Pine Belt Regional Airport), the Hattiesburg Municipal Airport, the Hattiesburg Industrial Park and designed drainage systems for Federal-Aid Urban Roads and Streets. Large commercial establishments have been some of our larger design encounters, such as the Cloverleaf Mall, The University Mall, the new Methodist Hospital, Hattiesburg Coca-Cola Bottling Company and the new Petal High School. We prepared a preliminary drainage study for the Northern portion of the Arledge West drainage basin for the Hattiesburg Housing Authority.

ROAD AND STREETS:

Our experience in planning, designing and observation of construction for roads and streets has been extensive since 1945, beginning with the Mississippi Department of Transportation continuous through this time. Our more recent experience has been with streets and roads in subdivisions, numerous city projects that included South 40th Avenue, North 38th Avenue, Lincoln Road, Weathersby Road, all of which are in the City of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and in the City of Petal, the Old Richton Road, North Main Street, West First Avenue, and Central Avenue. Our firm has extensive experience and understanding of the regulations and requirements of the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the State Aid Division. Our firm has developed many site plans for commercial developments. Some of these clients are as follows: Cloverleaf Mall, CBL & Associates, Marvin's, Lowe's, University Mall, Hattiesburg Industrial Park Commission, Hardy's, McDonald's, York Development, Kemp Company, Big K Oil, Morris Oil, and many others.

WATER AND SEWER:

We have designed water systems for over 25 water associations including water distributions, elevated water tanks, water wells and water treatment plants; and have designed water and sewer systems for over 50 entities including sewer treatment plants.

Some of our projects included water and sewer extensions for the Methodist Hospital and the Hattiesburg Coca-Cola Bottling Company, water and sewer extensions to serve NECO, water and sewer systems for the Hattiesburg Industrial Park, sewer extensions to tie Lamar Park into the City of Hattiesburg's sewer system, new sewer for the City of Petal including interceptors, a metered pump station to pump sewer to the City of Hattiesburg's South Lagoon, and rehabilitation of sewer, including insitu-forming, in the City of Petal.

Shows, Dearman & Waits, Inc., has served as City Engineer for the City of Petal since 1976. Our work as City Engineers has consisted of drainage studies, street planning and construction, bridge construction, water and sewer projects, consultations with the City Administration pertaining to the engineering problems occurring in the City of Petal.
